The design of this new building, in contrast, reflects a desire, and client brief, to look at ‘new ways’ of expressing commercial office Architecture not only in comparison to 20 years ago but also when compared to the current design trend for ‘steel and glass’ so prevalent throughout the city. Through the innovative use of massing, materials and elevational treatment and pattern, the new larger building is ‘broken-down’ in scale and presents a new life and visual movement to the streetscape. The dramatic ‘overhang’ effect of the corner element over the double height Ground Floor moving to triple height by the lowering of the retail elements to basement level adds to the sense of vertical movement of the spaces and the façade treatment.
